Advisory services

The AStA offers a wide variety of advisory services

within the office hours you can come by our offices to evaluate which kind of advisory service fits best to your problem. We can tell you what services there are and place you with experts for your needed field of expertise. There are a lot of advisors directly in the AStA who can provide help in a lot of fields. We have advisors in the fields of employment law, tenancy law, foreigners law, social counseling, debt counseling, and so on.

BAFöG- and social counseling

If you have any questions about BAföG or how to finance your studies then you can contact our social referee. He*She will also help you with any sort of social problem. We speak English.

Consultation-hours: The consultation times can be seen by clicking here. The consultation times will take place at the AStA-Office city center (S1|03/62).

Don't hesitate to visit the social counseling. The earlier you contact us the easier it might be to help you. To help you we do need to know all the facts. Please bring all the necessary papers regarding your problem with you. Of course everything remains confidential.

Broadcasting fee (Rundfunkbeitrag/GEZ, ARD, ZDF, Deutschlandradio): Since there are always questions: unfortunately, international students also have to pay the broadcasting fee as long as they have no legal reasons for exemption. More information regarding of the broadcasting fee, also in English, can be found on the page of the "Studentenwerk Dresden".

Health insurance consultation hours

If you have questions or problems of any kind concerning health insurance (remaining in family insurance, classification of working student jobs/mini-jobs/multiple jobs/..., cost coverage for various topics,...), an expert can advise you.

Catharina Bremer works at Techniker Krankenkasse to offer advice for students. She is happy to advise customers of all health insurance companies: Since all services provided by statutory health insurance companies are based on SGB V, Catharina is also very familiar with health insurance companies other than Techniker.

The consultation takes place from October every 3rd Tuesday from 14:00 to 16:00 in the Konfi of the AStA (S1|03 59).

Counseling for international students

The AStA has a special counseling for international students. It is held by the referees for international students. Theses referees represent the international students and handle topics and problems regarding international students. You can always contact them or ask questions via .

The queer division of AStA comprises representatives of and for queer students . They provide counselling on request. When there is a necessity, they can provide you with contacts of professional experts in this field. Ofcourse, all of this private and anonymously

Consultation for tenancy law at the Studierendenwerk

For tenancy law, Mr. Binder advises as a lawyer from the Studierendenwerk, he advises by telephone. Consultation for employment law

The neccessity of the Campus Office is a consequence of how (higher) education and labour is organized by the German state. To decrease the study period and increase pressure on good grades, studying has become quite uncomfortable over the last few decades and as a consequences, students need to work in addition to their studies. For ca. 2/3 this is essential to finance the education. Most students have little to no knowledge of German labour and social law. There are three main reasons. Oftentimes it is their first occupation (in Germany). Then the employer retains information regarding the working contract, the rights of employees etc. And last international students are especially effected by these factors combined.

If you have any questions regarding German labour and social law, do not hesitate to contact me (mail adress below). Notice however that I am no legal consultant and that my competence is restricted to answer general questions in this realm.

You can make an appointment for example if you have questions concerning these topics; but there is no limit to it, we will manage:

  • Contract termination
  • Allowed holidays or employment protection

General legal advice

Every student at the TU Darmstadt can consult our free legal advice provided by our lawyers. A previous registration at our city center office is necessary. Please bring your student-id with you. We also need a basic topic in which field you need advice (for example tenancy or foreigners law). This is needed to assign you to the correct lawyer.

To fix a counselling appointment, please come to the AStA Bureau preferably. If you can not appear personally please give us a call or wirte an email to: rechtsberatung(at)asta.tu-darmstadt.de including your full name, mobile number and a description of your problem.
